Getting to Malta

Travel to Malta

Malta is one of the most accessible destinations in the Mediterranean. Its compact size, central location and excellent connections make planning your trip simple, whether you arrive by air or sea. Most visitors enjoy short flight times or scenic ferry crossings, with transfers that quickly bring you to the heart of the island.

With direct flights, fast ferry services and a modern airport, your journey to Malta is smooth and straightforward. Below you’ll find the main travel options and services available to help you start your trip without stress.

Flights to Malta

The national airline is KM Malta Airlines, launched in March 2024, with direct services between Malta and major European cities. Alongside this, many European and low-cost carriers fly regularly throughout the year.

Arriving by Ferry

Virtu Ferries operates a year-round service between Valletta and Pozzallo in Sicily, with crossings taking around 90–110 minutes. Vehicles can be taken on board, and departures are frequent enough for day or weekend trips.

Travellers often enjoy combining their Malta stay with onward road or rail journeys in Sicily.

Malta International Airport

MIA, sometimes referred to locally as Luqa Airport, lies just 8 km from Valletta. Journeys to St Julian’s or Sliema take around 15–25 minutes by taxi. Frequent public transport also connects the airport to main localities across Malta.

This means you can be checked in and enjoying the seafront shortly after landing.

Airport & Ferry Transfers

For extra convenience, we can arrange a meet-and-greet transfer. A driver will be waiting in the arrivals hall to help with luggage and take you directly to your accommodation. Pick-ups from the Valletta ferry terminal can also be organised.

This door-to-door option is ideal for late arrivals, families and first-time visitors.

However you choose to travel, Malta is easy to reach and even easier to enjoy. With quick connections, short transfer times and optional pre-arranged services, you can focus on the island’s sunshine, bays and historic towns from the moment you arrive.
