Homestay

Homestay accommodation gives you the chance to live with a local family, experience Maltese culture first-hand, and practise English every day in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The school can arrange accommodation with one of our trusted homestay families. All our hosts are carefully selected and subject to regular reviews to ensure they provide a friendly, safe, and pleasant atmosphere for our students. Living with a host family is more than just a place to stay – it is an opportunity to gain an insight into Maltese life, traditions, and hospitality.

Homestay accommodation includes a single or twin/double room as standard, along with breakfast and dinner provided daily. Single rooms are the most popular option, though twin rooms are also available for participants travelling alone. In this case, we will assign you an appropriate roommate of the same gender and, where possible, of a different nationality to encourage cultural exchange and English practice outside the classroom.

Bedlinen and towels are provided and cleaned once a week; however, students are kindly asked to bring their own beach towels. Families provide fans during the warmer summer months and heating during the cooler winter season, helping ensure a comfortable stay throughout the year.

Laundry is normally done once a week by the host family, though students should be prepared to make arrangements depending on the household routine. As with any homestay, a certain level of flexibility and open-mindedness is essential. This is not a guesthouse or hotel – it is a home. Our families open their doors to students and welcome them as part of their household, creating a “home away from home” that balances independence with inclusion.

Choosing a homestay option also allows you to practise English in real-life situations outside of school hours. Mealtimes often provide valuable opportunities to engage in conversation, develop listening skills, and build confidence in speaking. This immersive environment encourages language learning in a natural, supportive way.

All homestay accommodation is located within close proximity to the school, making travel to and from lessons simple and convenient. Families are based in safe, residential areas, giving students a balanced experience between everyday Maltese life and easy access to St Julian’s and the school.
