Overview of Maltalingua's Syllabus for Young Learners

Voices – National Geographic Learning

Maltalingua’s Junior syllabus is based on the Voices book series from National Geographic Learning, a programme designed to integrate engaging content, critical thinking and real-world themes into English study.

This curriculum helps students not just learn language, but develop their own “voice” in English — fostering curiosity, cultural awareness and communication confidence.

With Voices, every reading text is supported by audio, helping students improve listening skills, pronunciation and fluency. The series is designed to be flexible and accessible, giving teachers tools to adapt lessons to every learner’s needs.

The books place a strong emphasis on authenticity, with real texts, striking National Geographic photography, and culturally relevant topics. Lessons are carefully scaffolded so students can succeed step by step, while always being challenged to express their own ideas.

Teachers and learners alike value the visual appeal and variety of activities — from infographics and discussion prompts to writing tasks and project work — all designed to help students connect English to the real world.

The Voices series is part of a modern, seven-level curriculum that builds the skills students need for effective global communication. By combining inspiring content with practical language practice, it keeps learners motivated and engaged throughout their journey.

Each unit blends reading, listening, speaking and writing tasks, supported by critical thinking activities and visual resources. Students are encouraged to share opinions, reflect on diverse perspectives, and connect what they learn in class to the world around them.

Digital resources complement the printed books with interactive activities, auto-graded exercises and teacher feedback tools. This creates a seamless experience inside and outside the classroom, helping students track their progress and continue learning at home.

Self-Study Platform – Continue Learning at Home

The Voices series includes online resources such as videos, interactive activities and exercises. Teachers can set assignments, provide feedback and communicate directly with students on the platform, encouraging independent learning.

Task-Based Learning Lessons

Maltalingua complements the Voices syllabus with tailor-made sessions focusing on systems, skills and task-based projects. Learners are encouraged to connect lesson content with their surroundings, making the experience more immersive and practical.

Assessment & Progress

Students are placed according to an online Placement Test and a speaking assessment on their first day. Weekly targets and progress tests help track development, with regular feedback and individual study plans ensuring every student achieves their goals.
